I have talked with many a people about a variety of subjects and for the most part I get the same reaction. People are fed up with a lot of the BS in this world (not just the US we have the same problems all over the world). The problem is when you speak up about subjects that are not so politically correct, taboo subjects, that when you are talking in private a lot of people agree with but it is hard to agree with in a public forum because you become heartless, or greedy, or a scrooge, or some other kind of troll. Well the whole reason behind this blog is so that I can blow off steam, rant if you will, and you can agree or disagree, I don't care which really. Maybe I should have called the blog "I don't understand how" because a lot of the problems I have is that I don't understand how some people can get away with some of the stuff they do, I don't understand how we can let people take advantage of us the way we do. There are 2nd Generation welfare recipients in the US now here in the UK we call it Social Security but it is basically the same thing. I may not be the most motivated person in the world but I tell you, I can find a job within two generations. Basically a generation is between 25 and 35 years. I am pretty sure I could find a job doing anything in the world if you give me 50 to 70 years. These handouts have evolved into a sense of entitlement. It is something we are supposed to provide, a work ethic is lost on these oxygen thieves.
I will tell you honestly, some people deserve a hand, they have paid into a system that is supposed to help them when times get tough. But........ after a while it becomes time to pull the plug. A guy loses his job as a computer programmer because of tough economic times, we should help him. He was making $50,000 per year, ok he was paying his dues on that amount too. But if after a year he can not find another job as a computer programmer I believe it is time to re-evaluate his career options. He needs to look at other ways to provide for himself and his family because he obviously is not a good enough programmer to compete in that job market at this time. I truly believe that anyone that wants a job 100% will eventually get a job. I have talked with people that have lost jobs due to their current employers going under and have had another job within a month, maybe not in the same field but they realize that jobs are harder to get now and are willing to make that exception.
Here is my next argument, why do we have to "give" money to anyone anyway. Why can't we have a system for them to earn the money in their checks. There are so many things that can be done and probably give experience to the people doing the jobs. The question is, will some of it be "busy work", for those not associated with the military, busy work is work that is invented to fill peoples time, Yes, some of it will be busy work, but, I say so what. Work ethic is a perishable trait. If it is not used, it fades away. So keeping someone busy will provide work for one person as well as incentive to find another vocation for another. Child care can be one of the jobs so that others can work. We need supervisors that will evaluate each individual and if they don't "earn" their money we have to dock it. I can assure you if we have this type of system, less people will be on it.
Again I don't believe everybody on welfare falls into this category but there are a lot of them and it needs to be dealt with. I am personally sick of having people on TV publicly telling me they are cheating the system and we don't do anything about it. I know I will have some people who disagree and I am glad to read what you want to say if you email me but it will be hard to change my mind I think.
So "There, I said it" if you have anything you would like me to rant about please email me or post on my facebook. I will be taking a look at articles and other ridiculous stuff to rant about so if you see one of those send me a link.

ReplyDeletewell i agree, but the system you would like to see in place is actually in plce in germany, well a variation of it, after unemployment benefits run out a person goes to whats called harts 4, that means they get roughly 400 euro a month, their rent and electric, phone and tv are paid for by the state, they are made to work what is called a 400 euro job in addition to the harts 4 handout, there are several problems with this program, companys are now only hiring 400 euro workers because the state pays for the employees benifits, ie medical insurance and retirement etc, it is very cost effective for the companys, this in turn leaves less full time jobs do to the 400 euro workers, they turn 1 full time position into 4 or 8 400 euro jobs taking away the chance for someone to make a honest living for his family, this system also drives down wages for the full time workers, in the end a person living off the system has more money in their pocket at the end of the month than the full time employee forced to work for 7 euro an hour, the system was great in theory but terrible in practice, if that system is going to work there has to be some very strict guidance and an even stronger oversight.
ReplyDeleteAhhh Bud...you've started your blog with a category near and dear to my heart!! I can never win when I talk about this subject. I would like to stop paying social security. I'm never going to see a dime of it. Now when I say that outloud, my in-laws (and you know them) just freak out. Obviously if my generation could stop paying social security, their generations S.S.I. funds would suffer greatly and they wouldn't get what they were promised by an official that their generation elected, who set up a system that was designed to fail. The second anyone was allowed to borrow or should I say pilfer or should I say suck? funds from it....it was doomed. (And yet the band played on.) I don't know the answer and I don't know why we are forced to throw our hard-earned money onto a sinking ship. But what I really don't understand is why you don't have to pass a drug test to draw any form of welfare. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteRick, I would have to agree that the guidance and oversight will be very important. I was not thinking that the two should be combined because as you can see if business is given the chance to save money they will. I was actually thinking of Government work a bit. Maybe some busy work. Grafitti removal, street and highway clean up, It could be just about anything that we get some benefit from our payment to them. It would also keep a work ethic in place and give people a reason to get off it and find employment.
ReplyDeleteDanni, I don't know the answer either but some of my later posts are going to address a few issues including the fact that we are not the ones supposed to come up with the answers although if we do we should forward that information up, but some of the stuff I will talk about later includes, We pay these gits to figure out the answer and we pay them very well, with some hellacious benefits, benefits that are even better than their fat paychecks. Some of these jerks will make several hundred thousand dollars a year for the rest of their life. They are allowed to use information they get for insider trading without punishment and I could go on and on about their compensation. Again if we are going to give them that much money, seems they could figure this out, it is what we hired them for but we get excuses, higher debt and we still give them all this money, I need to save some of this for my next rant lol.
